This award recognizes individuals who have given extra effort to support the SIVB Programs and endeavors. The awardees are specially selected by the SIVB President. For the 2015 awards, the members of the Ad Hoc Website Development Committee were recognized for their efforts in the development of the new website, which came online in June, 2015, were recognized. The new website was the result of considerable effort by the members of this committee.
The award winners were: Wayne Parrott – University of Georgia (currently on assignment to NSF), Michael Fay – Midwestern University, Michael Kane – University of Florida, Sylvia Mitchell – University of the West Indies, Dwight Tomes, Jeffrey Kwak, James Sadler, University of Florida, Nguyen Hoang- University of Florida, and Daniel Barnes- Southeastern Louisiana University.
Also, two exceptional individuals were recognized for their support of the Society’s mission. Marten Peterson has been instrumental in supporting the Student Section Awards Program. Marten has demonstrated initiative and continuing commitment to promoting the Society and supporting the professional development of our future leaders. Marten exemplifies the leadership demonstrated by many of our student members.
David D. Songstad has continued his long term commitment to the Society over many years of service, which is anticipated to continue for many years to come. David continually looks for innovative approaches to promote the SIVB as the premier society to support biotechnology development and to merge the common interest of science and business. Those of you who have gotten to know David are well aware of his enthusiasm for science and our society.
It was indeed my pleasure as president to be able to recognize these exceptional individuals.
