2017 Lifetime Achievement Award
Dr. J. Denry Sato, scientist for the Manzanar Project Foundation, was recipient of the Society for In Vitro Biology 2017 Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.  Dr. Sato was recognized for his significant scientific career that spans over 35 years of pioneering contributions to in vitro biology and applications to human disease and cancer treatment.These pioneering accomplishments include, but are not limited to:

  • development of defined media and growth conditions for hybridoma and stem cells;
  • development of an FDA-approved EGF receptor monoclonal antibody for human cancer treatment;
  • characterization of a cancer cell line vascular endothelial cell growth factor (VEGF);
  • molecular mechanisms activating the cystic fibrosis trans-membrane conductance regulator (CFTR)

Dr Sato holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Sussex, Brighton England and a doctoral degree in Genetics from Oxford University..…..>

2017 Distinguished Scientist Award
Allan Wenck Received his B.S. in Biology and Environmental Studies from Warren Wilson College, Asheville, NC in 1985. He got his M.A. in life Science from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN in 1988, and received his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC in 1996. Allan received his J.D. in 2013 from North Carolina Central University School of Law, Durham, NC.….>

Raleigh didn’t disappoint—as usual!  A meeting such as ours doesn’t happen by accident—because of the able assistance of Marietta and Michele, active board members, program chairs, and volunteers that step up when needed.  I am also indebted to our 2017 program chair Addy Alt-Holland (and others) who made announcements for me during the time when my voice was AWOL during the meeting..…..>
