In MemoriamMy former Major Professor at South Dakota State University, Dr. Chen Ho Chen, passed away on July 30, 2017.  He was 87 years old.  He was a long-time member of the Tissue Culture Association and retired in 1994, which was about the time the society switched names to the SIVB.  His area of research was forage grass tissue culture and his lab produced calli and regenerated plants from Big Bluestem, Little Bluestem, Indiangrass, Switchgrass, Crested Wheatgrass, Green Needlegrass, Western Wheatgrass, Smooth Bromegrass and Orchardgrass.  He also published several papers on tissue culture of various species of lilies. Prostaglandin actions in established insect cell lines Prostaglandins (PGs) are derived from arachidonic acid and two other C20 polyunsaturated fatty acids. They are most understood in the biomedical arena, where they exert many actions, such as proinflammatory reactions to infection and wounding. The biological significance of PGs in insects and other invertebrates has come to light over the last 30 years. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the world’s largest international pre-college science competition, annually provides a forum for more than 1,500 high school students from over 40 countries to showcase their independent research. The Intel ISEF is the premiere science competition in the world exclusively for students in grades 9-12. Plant Biotechnology Post Doctoral Oral Presentation Competition

To support the Society’s vision to encourage education and scientific informational exchange and recognize outstanding post docs, the Plant Biotechnology Section held a Plant Biotechnology Post-doctoral Oral Presentation Competition on Sunday June 11th. A panel of judges evaluated the presentations using the following criteria: experimental design, data analysis, proper interpretation of the results, originality of the study, technical difficulty, appearance and ability of the post-doctoral candidate to present it.
