The Society for In Vitro Biology (SIVB) is committed to the future endeavors of science and encourages the continued growth of scientists and their students. To support the Society’s vision to encourage education and scientific informational exchange, SIVB offers a number of special opportunities to assist students and their ability to grow through their scientific community, including: Free Student Registration/Membership initiatives, the Student Awards Program, and the Graduate Student Poster Competitions.

FREE Student Registration and Membership Initiative

All current students who can show institutional certification will receive free registration to the scientific sessions of the 2008 World Congress. Students who register and attend the 2008 World Congress on In Vitro Biology will receive free membership to the Society in 2009!

The 2008 World Congress is being held at the Hilton Tucson El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort from June 14 - 18, 2008. The Hilton Tucson El Conquistador is located at 10000 N. Oracle Road in Tucson, Arizona. For additional information on the meeting please see

Graduate Student Poster Competition

In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences Student Poster Competition
The In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences section is pleased to announce the 2008 student poster competition.

Students wishing to enter the poster competition should submit a copy of their title and abstract (as submitted to SIVB) and abstract tracking number to Dr. Lia Campbell at lcampbell@celltissuesystems.com no later than 1 April 2008. Only those abstracts formally submitted to both SIVB and lcampbell@celltissuesystems.com can be considered. Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged electronically to the submitting student.

Six poster competition finalists will be selected based on the quality of the abstracts. The abstract should address the following: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results and Discussion and Conclusions. Where appropriate, the methods section should include a description of how reproducible results were ensured. The abstract must not include references. The abstract text must not exceed 1800 characters.

A panel of judges will evaluate the posters and the oral presentation of poster contents during the interactive poster session Sunday, June 15, from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm. Criteria are experimental design, data analysis, proper interpretation of the results, originality of the study, technical difficulty, appearance of poster and ability of the student to explain it). Winners will be presented a certificate and a cash award at the at the In Vitro Animal Cell Sciences Section business meeting on the evening of Monday June 16th.

Plant Biotechnology Student Poster Competition
The Plant Biotechnology section is pleased to announce the 2008 student poster competition.

Students wishing to enter the poster competition should submit a copy of their title and abstract (as submitted to SIVB) and abstract tracking number to Dr. Fredy Altpeter <altpeter@ufl.edu> no later than April 1, 2008. Only those abstracts formally submitted to both SIVB and altpeter@ufl.edu can be considered. Receipt of abstracts will be acknowledged electronically to the submitting student.

6 Poster competition finalists will be selected based on the quality of the abstracts. The abstract should address the following: Background, Objectives, Methods, Results and Discussion and Conclusions.
