Cardiac Muscle |
R. J. Blandau and R. E. Rumery |
VHS or B/W-Sound-12 |
| |
Striking demonstrations of the development
of cardiac muscle from the chick embryo showing development of contractility
and the appearance of myofibrils in action. (Phase/Polarizing Optics) |

Activity of Heart Muscle From
Rat Embryos Grown In Vitro |
C. M. Goss |
VHS or B/W-Silent-17 |
| |
Growth and development of cardiac muscle explants
from 16 day old rat embryos in culture. Film shows the beating of a single
muscle cell and the formation of striations by cells in culture. (Bright-Field
Optics) |

Morphology, Growth and Pacemaker
Activity of Mammalian Heart Ventricle Cells in Culture |
G. E. Mark and F. F. Strasser |
VHS or B/W-Sound-17 |
| |
A culture is followed from day 1 to 9, beginning
with single independently beating cells, and following the same field
through to an interconnected synchronously-beating cell network. Both
time-lapse and natural speed photography have been used to show, respectively,
cell movement and cell beating. Mitosis in beating muscle cells and the
synchronization of cells beating are illustrated. Details of cell morphology
are emphasized by electron micrographs, and by stained preparations. (Phase
Optics) |
