Fellow SIVB Members,
I hope you all have had a great start to the holiday season. Thanksgiving Day was a wonderful start for me and my family. I have so much to be thankful for. It is almost overwhelming at times. Yet, as I look around my community, both personal and professional, I see so much pain, frustration and confusion. Economic, social, environmental and health issues are truly wreaking havoc on so many. As we approach the end of 2011 and the start of a new year I hope that SIVB can be a nexus of stability at least for our professional sphere of influence. Through the efforts of many of you, SIVB continues to become stronger financially and intellectually. Our meetings, journals, and other communications are moving the field of in vitro sciences in all the right directions. Our members continue to receive academic and community awards of excellence. Our students are being exposed to outstanding science and mentorship. As president, I want to know how SIVB can be more active in enhancing all the professional needs of our members. New initiatives to improve our website and our total presence on the web through social media are moving forward. Early next year we will have a call for volunteers to work with an ad hoc committee to identify and create new ways for SIVB to utilize the internet. We need your thoughts on how to expand our membership rolls. Are there members who have helped you in your career? Maybe they can be recognized with an award from SIVB. I bet if they have helped you, they probably have had a positive impact on many others. Read More>
