President's Report
Fellow SIVB Members,

I cannot explain the excitement I feel for the upcoming SIVB Annual Meeting in Raleigh. The Program has come together beautifully. It certainly will not be difficult finding sessions to your liking. Much more difficult might be having to decide when to take a little time away from the meeting to enjoy your friends or to see the sites around Raleigh. I am extremely proud of all the hard work put forth by the Program Committee. This will be a great experience for all of us. I look forward to your comments both at the meeting and afterwards. I will not be difficult to find as I plan to attend as many of the sessions and activities that I can.

The financial health of the society continues to grow. I could list all the members that have contributed to this, but they know who they are. I will try to acknowledge their contributions throughout my term. If you know of individuals who have made your association with SIVB better please mention it to your section officers or me. Dr. Donald Ingber

2010 SIVB Lifetime
Achievement Awards

Dr. Donald Ingber was the recipient of the Society for In Vitro Biology Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 annual Meeting in St Louis, MO.  Dr. Ingber has made significant contributions to in vitro biology research and is a pioneer in the fields of extracellular matrix biology, angiogenesis, tissue engineering, and mechanotransduction. 

Dr. Ingber began his college education at Yale University where he earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry.  He then entered the Medical Scientist Training Program at Yale, and earned M.D., M.Phil., and Ph.D. degrees.  Dr. Ingber performed his graduate research in Cell Biology in the laboratory of Dr. James Jamieson, where he investigated the role of the extracellular ...Read More

Dr. Tetsuji Okamoto

Announces New Editor

The January issue of In Vitro Cellular and Developmental Biology – Animal is the first under the new editor-in-chief Dr. Tetsuji Okamoto. Dr. Okamoto is the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Molecular Oral Medicine and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Hiroshima University in Hiroshima, Japan. He is also the Executive Vice President of Hiroshima University. Dr. Okamoto has been a member of the Society for In Vitro Biology (formerly the Tissue Culture Association) since 1987, and he is a longstanding member and former President of the Japanese Tissue Culture Association (JTCA). Dr. Okamoto received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Hiroshima University School of Dentistry where he studied the effects of intermediates in cholesterol biosynthesis on the differentiation of cultured epidermal
